Lutheran Church of the Redeemer

"Expanding Our Roots" is one of two 24/25 season recitals presented at what has become Lux's home-base, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The sanctuary is a beautiful and ideal space for a string quartet, and we are grateful to the Redeemer community for welcoming Lux.

"Expanding Our Roots" features the World Premiere of Australian composer Nicholas Vines’ Confessions of a Pangolin(2020). Vines’ work is the first piece written for and dedicated to Lux. As a featured MPR 24/25 Class Notes Artist and dedicated to presenting new works to audiences, Lux has been performing Confessions for K-12 students in the Twin Cities metro area. Alongside Vines’ new work Lux will perform Grieg’s String Quartet No. 1 in G Minor and Shostakovich’s “Polka” from Two Pieces for String Quartet. These pieces are a nod to the composers’ home countries and like Vines’ new commission does today, they expanded the sonic landscape of the string quartet.
