About the event

Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major (1903), his only work written for the genre, harkens back to the more elegant and formal style of Mozart.  The quartet’s ethereal opening gives way to characters both playful and sorrowful, providing comfort to the listener while also steering them down an unexpected road.

Structured in a five-movement ‘arch-form,’ Bartók’s String Quartet No. 4 (1928) reaches its emotional apex in the third movement’s nighttime lament. With astonishing creativity, Bartok reimagines the intricacies of folk music in his distinctly uncompromising style.

You’re invited! Join us as we explore these two fantastic string quartets.
